Cancun Beach Restoration

This is the breakwater that is being rebuilt as part of the beach restoration project. It is located at the northern most point of the project and extends from the wedding gazebo at the Dreams Cancun Hotel at Punta Cancun out to the Islet which should provide some erosion protection for the beaches.

The first picture shows they are about half way out to the Islet. Also notice how much of the new beach is already eroded because the old breakwater is gone.

The dredgers are working today, and restoring the beach at the Oasis Cancun, Grand Oasis Cancun, and Omni hotels. They will continue through tomorrow (Tuesday) and then the shoe will drop if the Municipality of Benito Juárez has not deposited the 230 million pesos that it agreed would be the municipal financial participation in the project.
