Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the founding of Cancun on the 30 April of this year (Children’s Day in Mexico) will be held in Cancun Poliforum Benito Juárez, the I GREAT CONCERT OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH OF CANCUN.

Cancun Children Playing Music

Cancun 40th Anniversaire

In this great event over 1,200 children and youth from Cancun, Cozumel, Bonfil, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres will play flute with an extensive repertoire including classics – Mozart, Beethoven – as well as they will instrument and sing various popular melodies accompanied by professional musicians from the Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City.

Troughout the six last months, 6,300 children and young people of Cancun are preparing for this incredible event being formed and helped by specialist teachers who have been dealing in the interpretation of a large repertoire.

Since this year marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of Cancun, 20 public schools were selected plus other privated 20 to form the cast of “Children and young artists” .

All this enormous Proyect has been created and developed by FILARMONIA, an entity wich is focused on finding incentives to encourage and develop musical sensitivity of children from an early age, making them feel the team spirit, whilst providing them with a singular musical method of learning and guiding them toward positive values.

As a significant fact, the testimony of many music teachers in these schools who initiated this major musical project, is known that the rate of violence against and between children and young people in the colonies where these children live have strongly diminished.

GENERAL FERRY INFO

Ferry schedules and Tickets

There are two separate ferry companies running ferries back and forth from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel. One ferry leaves 5 to 10 minutes ahead of the other one. Both ferries are more or less the same in comfort, speed and amenities.

It does not matter which ferry you take.

Both ferries have refreshments. You can get beer, pop and juices. The old ferry used to show reruns of old television shows on their televisions. The new ferry has televisions as well however, every time we have been on it, the televisions were off.

Ferry schedules change and each company produces its own published schedules they are both different  which is why if you do a search on the net for Cozumel Ferry times you will get so many conflicting times.

We attempt to keep our schedule current, however, it can change without notice, so your best bet is if you are going to Cozumel-Playa del Carmen then simply get to the docks early and buy your ticket for the next available trip as soon as you get there, then sit and wait for the ferry.

PURCHASING YOUR TICKET

There are a number of different places where you can buy your ferry ticket. There are booths on 5th Ave. and more booths close to the docks. Each ferry company has its own booths and they try to out-sell each other.

To our knowledge the ferries are never completely sold out except the early morning rides because of workers going to Cozumel so you can always get a seat.

In Cozumel you buy a ticket at the dock where you board the ferry in San Miguel.

Cancun has an excellent bus service, far superior to Canada or the U.S. It is also the cheapest way to get around Mexico.

Ticket bus cancun hotels
On-line Bus Schedules can be found here for the Yucatan and connecting routes .
Traveling on a bus can be an interesting experience as well. You have the opportunity to meet some unique people. For example on any given ride you could be seated next to a family of Mayas dressed in traditional clothing on their way to a festival. Or you could sit next to that bohemian x-judge from New York who abandoned his former lifestyle to live on a farm in Mexico and grow mushrooms. And don’t be surprised if that quiet Mexican sitting next to you is not university educated and speaks fluent English.

THE BUS SYSTEM
There are several classes of buses in Mexico and many bus lines. Not all lines service everywhere. There is a bus rating system, however like the resort rating system it is completely arbitrary and the ratings are generally posted by the bus line that would be obviously biased. When selecting a bus service you can either select a bus that is traveling where you want to go at the time you wish to go or you can select a bus based on the quality of the service. Some buses are brand new luxury vehicles while others are rickety jalopies however, it is nothing like Cuba and they do not have pink camels [a strange long pink tractor trailer used as a bus
