Located in one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and 5 minutes (walking) from the central square of Holbox GETTING THERE Holbox is an island that is located exactly at the site in that mix waters of the Caribbean Sea with the Gulf of Mexico, located in the most northern of the State of Quintana Roo and the northeast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The nearest airports are in Cancun and Merida. From whatever starting point we must first reach Chiquilá where are the boats to cross to Holbox. Cancun-Chiquilá Take the free road to Merida, in line to Leona Vicario, immediately after V. Leone is the village of Nuevo Valladolid in which the entry (262 km of road) there is a diversion to your right (just after the stop), then bends and follows the road in a straight line to run into a wall where are signs (left) and the ideal (right) Chiquilá to be located in that 45 minutes. Among the attractions of the area is the magnificent lagoon Yalahau is a natural paradise surrounded by mangroves. This lagoon separates the island of Holbox and its land bank is the famous Ojo de Agua that bears the same name. In its origins the Mayans gathered to drink water from it, besides using it to cool. One day a Maya king ordered to close the site for public use into a resting place where they built a pool in the background decorated with precious jade. For lovers of the diving here is an excellent choice. The lagoon is Yalahau Bird Island, which measures just 500 meters in diameter, composed of sand and guano. Approximately 155 species of birds feed and nest there, among the most common are the frigate bird, the Ibis white gazelle white, double-crested cormorant, gazelle red pink spoonbills, white pelicans, gray pelicans, herons, and pink flamingos course visiting the island from April to October. In this magnificent lagoon may also see dolphins, who come in to feed in the early hours of the morning. During the summer season is the best for snorkeling.
