Cancun Water Sports

Cancun is a water sports paradise. Year-round warm weather, crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea and calm waters of the Nichupte Lagoon are ideal for a myriad of activities on the water.

The saltwater lagoon of Nichupte is the heart of many of Cancun’s water sports. Here you will find windsurfing, water skiing, sailing, jet skiing, parasailing and kayaking. There are several marinas on the Lagoon with various operators offering lessons, rentals and tours. These include Aquafun, Aquaworld, Barracuda Marina, Punta del Este and many more.

Windsurfing

The calm waters and soft winds of Cancun make it an ideal place for windsurfing. At Playa Tortugas there is an International Windsurfing School where you can hire equipment and have lessons. You will find that most windsurfing is done in the Nichupte Lagoon or along the Bahia de Mujeres – the northern end of the Cancun Hotel Zone. Just ask for advice at your hotel or the marinas at the Lagoon.

 

Kayaking

Waterskiing

Jungle Boating

Jungle Boating Cancun A tour by speedboat through the Cancun mangroves and jungle is wonderful fun for all ages. If you are 18 years old and over, you can drive your own boat. Tours leave from the marina at the lagoon and usually go all the way out to the coral reef.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jet Skis (Wave Runners)

Experience the thrill of speeding across the waters of the Caribbean Sea on a jet ski. This is a popular sport in Cancun. There are a couple of ways to enjoy jet skis. If you are 18 years old and over, you can hire a jet ski individually. Rental rates are usually by the hour or half-hour. There is no speed limit however there are some restrictions such as not riding too close to beaches. Alternatively you might like to join a tour. Tours usually use jet skis that take 2 people and you will have a guide who will teach you the rules and regulations and guide you on a jet ski adventure through jungle and mangroves or out to the coral reef.

 

 

Parasailing

This is an exciting adventure water sport available in Cancun. You will have wonderful views of the Cancun landscape from the air. Parasailing is available above the Lagoon or along the coast.

 

Catamarans

The experience of sailing a catamaran through the calm waters of Cancun is an unforgettable adventure. You can charter your own catamaran or join a tour. Your hotel reception with have details on where to hire a catamaran or join a tour.

 

 

Swim with the Dolphins

A unique and enriching experience while in Cancun is to swim with the dolphins. There are a few places offering this wonderful opportunity: Dolphin Discovery at Cozemul, Isla Mujeres and Puerto Aventuras, Interactive Aquarium at La Isla Shopping Center, Dolphinaris, Xcaret Eco Park, and Xel-ha.

 

 

Submarine Tours

Subsea Explorer, Cancun

This is a wonderful way to see the underwater world of the Caribbean Sea. View the beautiful marine life and coral without getting wet. Subsea Explorer, Cancun: Stays above the water and is really a boat with a glass bottom and portholes below the waterline. Children love it. Atlantis, Cozumel is a real submarine that goes down to about 100 feet underwater. It’s a great way to see the coral reefs and marine life around Isla Mujeres.
